Smûk has been founded in 2001 by singer Grytsje Bakker.

At first several musicians were contacted and in September of that same year the first numbers were born.

Smûk (pronounced as smook) is a typical expression within the Frysian language. It is hard to be translated in one word. Often is spoken of cosey, warm, in the shelter. Smûk talking is with a lot of humor.
